A Sarnia-to-London bus service still in the works

An intercity bus service connecting Sarnia residents to Strathroy and London could be up and running by early next year.

An intercity bus service connecting Sarnia residents to Strathroy and London could be up and running by early next year.

The municipalities are in the process of picking a private service provider with the goal of having the company in place by the end of October, said acting city engineering director David Jackson.

The province announced 15 months ago it was providing a $1.45-million grant over five years to kick-start an intercity bus service, but the proposal was put on hold for the provincial election.

The transfer agreement was recently finalized, Jackson says in a staff report, and buses will roll once the service provider is ready.

“We anticipate the service could be operational by early 2020,” he said.
