Dear Editor,
I will preface this, by saying that I'm a proud Canadian, who has always supported local business' by shopping in Canada. Even though, it used to be less expensive to shop and buy gas, across the river, I never could understand, why friends and neighbours chose to buy products available in Canada, from someone in another country. Granted, much of what is sold in Canada, is grown, or produced in other countries, but at least, I was supporting owners and workers, in this country.
Canadians, enjoy a good reputation, worldwide. We're considered, "polite and accommodating." In many instances, Americans have worn the maple leaf, when traveling abroad, because we're treated better, than Americans.
Sadly, it seems that we are becoming more "Trump-like" in attitude, judging by the vocal "booing" at sporting events, when the American anthem, is played. It's true, that Donald Trump has chosen to make Canada a target of his bullying and disparaging, in order to bend us to his will, and his devotees, (on both sides of the border) seem to think he's Mr. Wonderful, but on the whole, the majority of people see him for what he is, and wish us well.
Keeping in mind, that a vast number of Americans are as disgusted as we are, with Trump's actions and verbal abuse, we must remind ourselves, that as Canadians, we hold ourselves to a higher standard, and must resist the impulse, to sink to the same level, as Trump.
Just remember, that the American teams, playing against ours, aren't part of the politics, they just want to get on with the game. So, please act as Canadians should. Sing loud and clear, for our anthem, and stand straight, for theirs. When the music's over, settle in, and enjoy the game.
