It’s been nine months since The Journal launched a weekly column about the outstanding people who live in the Sarnia-Lambton community.
From the get-go, Journal readers responded by the tens of thousands to the column posted every Friday morning. In all, we’ve featured more than 40 different people from all walks of life.
They came from all categories, exceptional in sports, the arts, social services, health care, cultural pursuits, community work, innovation, volunteering, humanitarian aid, justice, business and education.
One of my favourite aspects was that The Journal’s Exceptional Person of the Week was selected from nominations submitted by our readers, and then chosen by our editorial team. Our file of nominations grew thick over the past months with names and stories about Sarnia-Lambton’s most amazing residents. Every single nomination was worthwhile and I only wish we could have honoured every one.
The column is taking a summer break but that doesn’t mean we won’t stop accepting nominations. As you think of them, please feel free to send in names of people you think make exceptional contributions and explain why. We welcome all your ideas and strongly believe this is what makes a local newspaper great.
Thanks to all the Exceptional People who accepted the nomination and generously shared your stories. Once again, I’ve learned that it’s true what they say – just when you think you know your community, you learn a little bit more about the people who make it tick and the astounding diversity of their interests!
In case you missed any of the weekly columns over the past nine months, we’ve attached a link here for you to access them all. Together the columns are a fabulous reflection of our community, its energy, its ambition, and its success. Enjoy!
Best regards,
Cathy Dobson
