Sept. 17 marked a special day of service and collaboration as volunteers from across the community came together for Sarnia-Lambton’s United Way Day of Caring. Among those lending their time and talents were 10 dedicated volunteers from Pembina Corunna, who came together with the nuSarnia Foundation for a hands-on bench-building project at Active Playground Equipment, who graciously provided their space for the day.
The United Way Day of Caring is a beloved annual event that unites community members to complete projects that often remain unfinished due to limited resources or time constraints. It offers a meaningful volunteer experience where employees from various organizations can work alongside one another, building connections, teamwork, and a shared sense of community pride.
Kerry Gabriel, event manager for nuSarnia Foundation said, "The volunteers from Pembina wasted no time getting to work. Together, they built, painted, and decorated 19 benches, which will soon be distributed to public trails, bus stops, nonprofit organizations, and schools throughout the Sarnia-Lambton area. The effort is part of a broader initiative for nuSarnia to enhance public spaces and provide practical amenities to the community. There is no way we would have completed this huge undertaking without the direct assistance of the Pembina Corunna Team. We are also so grateful to the United Way for having this important community program each year."
Mike Edgar, Manager, East NGL for Pembina comments, "We have a small team at Pembina Corunna but a large passion for community engagement and we were more than happy to play a small role in helping nuSarnia out with the benches. We love opportunities to do some good in our community and meeting great people in the process. Having fun and enjoying the team-building component only augments the experience for us. It was an exceptional day, thank you!"
United Way’s Day of Caring continues to grow in scope each year, with more businesses and volunteers stepping forward to make a difference. For many participants, it’s more than just a day of work; it’s an opportunity to give back, engage with others, and help create lasting positive change in Sarnia-Lambton. Thank you to all the volunteers and companies who came together to support this important initiative. The impact of these efforts will be felt across the community for years to come.
