Theatre Sarnia’s Junior Youth Musical Theatre Program is set to delight audiences with Annie Jr., a family-friendly musical full of hope, perseverance, and unforgettable songs. The production will take place on January 23 and 24, 2025, at the Imperial Theatre in Sarnia, with showtimes at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.
Based on the iconic comic strip and Tony Award-winning musical, Annie Jr. is set in 1930s New York City and tells the story of Annie, a spirited orphan determined to find her parents despite the challenges she faces at the orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Along her journey, she meets kind-hearted billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable dog named Sandy, all while delivering a powerful message of hope and optimism.
Directed and choreographed by Jackie Burns, with music direction by Mikayla Lozon, the production promises to be a joyful experience. The talented young cast and production team have dedicated four months of rehearsals to bringing this timeless story to life.
Jackie Burns, Youth Engagement Coordinator and the show’s director and choreographer, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming performance:
“We are so thrilled to bring this performance to Sarnia. Over the past four months, since the start of our program in September, our cast members have experienced all that goes into bringing a theatre production to life. From auditions and rehearsals to costume fittings, they’ve learned valuable skills in musical theatre and applied them with enthusiasm and dedication. Their energy has been inspiring, and it’s been such a joy to watch them grow!"
The production is the second in a series of four shows presented by the Theatre Sarnia Youth Group as part of their 2024/2025 season.
Brian Austin Jr., Executive Director of Theatre Sarnia, shared his pride in the performers and the program:
“As always, we are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our youth performers and production team. This program is a wonderful opportunity for young people in our community to experience the magic of live theatre, and Annie Jr. is the perfect story to inspire them. I’d like to thank Jackie Burns and the entire production team for their commitment, as well as the parents and families who support these young artists. This is an evening you won’t want to miss!”
Audiences can look forward to an inspiring evening of theatre, as these young performers bring their energy and passion to the stage, creating an unforgettable experience for all ages.
