Gallery in the Grove is opening its 2025 exhibition season with a vibrant display of talent in The Art of Seeing, featuring works by local artists Adelle Taylor and Joan Bennet Ross. The exhibition begins February 1, with an opening reception from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and runs through March 8.
Adelle Taylor, a Bright’s Grove native, returns home after 17 years in Toronto, where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at OCAD University and gained recognition at events such as The Toronto Artist Project. Her art draws deeply from Bright’s Grove’s natural beauty, with Lake Huron’s sunsets and weathered trees serving as lifelong inspirations.
“My art explores the emotional power of colour as a universal language and the profound connections between nature and the human condition,” Taylor explained. “My paintings reflect my personal connection to the world, capturing the nostalgia and emotions sparked by nature’s hues—the sky before a storm, the first light of dawn, and fleeting moments of both joy and melancholy.”
Joan Bennet Ross, a Sarnia-born artist and practicing surgeon, also finds inspiration in nature. A resident of Lake Huron’s shores, Ross frequently incorporates plein air techniques into her work. While her professional career led her to a Fellowship in General Surgery in 1994, her artistic journey began at 18, when she chose medicine over anatomical illustration at the Ontario College of Art. Her artwork often reflects her experiences near water and her time outdoors at places like Killarney Provincial Park.
Gallery in the Grove, a volunteer-run charitable organization, continues to support arts education in Sarnia-Lambton with its six annual exhibitions. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors are welcome to explore this compelling exhibition, where two distinctive artistic voices converge.
