Sarnia’s Hayden Mellon is the latest musician to be featured on a popular live music video recording series on YouTube.
“Incorrect Thoughts” aims to showcase live studio recordings of punk bands from Ontario and around the world.
"I came across their YouTube channel through another Lambton local, Mike Gallant, who also has had a session with Incorrect Thoughts,” Mellon said. “After seeing and hearing how well done it was put together, I knew I had to reach out to them immediately.”
The recording process includes a three-hour session at the Sugar Shack recording studio in London, Ontario, Mellon explained, with the first 45-60 minutes dedicated to setup and sound check.
“Then, I had the remaining time to play a few songs a couple of times and use the best takes."
As for the transition from live performances to recording live, Mellon added, "There's nothing that can beat the experience of performing to a live audience, but I do my best to put heart and soul into every performance no matter the setting."
Mellon, a prominent figure in Sarnia's live music scene, regularly hosts the Open Mic night at the Tin Fiddler and performs at various local venues including Imperial City Brew House, Two Water Brewery, Refined Fool, and The Riding Club.
"I love where the music industry is headed in Sarnia and there's already so much to be proud of,” he said, highlighting the importance of community support and collaboration in Sarnia's vibrant and inclusive music scene.
Mellon encourages participation in the ‘TinFidOpenMic’, describing it as, "a community within a community" and a "music-community staple in town,” extending an invitation to both performers and listeners.
He pointed to emerging talents discovered at the Open Mic event — artists like Karina Pakalnis, Josiah Tobey, Khrys Luther-Heath, Melissa Miller, Cynthia Fay, and numerous others who have contributed to the event's success.
