A tuba virtuoso will take centre stage when the International Symphony Orchestra presents the family-friendly ‘Friends and Fantasy’ show Feb. 27 in Sarnia.

Detroit-area soloist Jason Tanksley will bring to life the story of Tubby the Tuba, about a sad tuba who feels left out by his orchestra friends because has little to say other than “oompah.”

They react differently, however, when they realize Tubby is capable of much more.

Tanksley, a graduate of Wayne State University, has performed with various orchestras and the Michigan Opera Theatre.

Other program selections include a Star Wars medley, the Overture to Hansel and Gretel and music from Lord of the Rings.

A new work, Child’s Play, will showcase the ISO’s own principal flutist, Tessa Catton, on the piccolo.
