According to the legend, an inventor walked into Parker Brothers one day back in the ‘60s and pitched the toy company on a new indoor volleyball game that used a polyurethane foam ball.

After studying the game’s market potential, Parker Brothers decided to get rid of everything else and kept the foam ball.

The Nerf was born.

The phenomenon gave rise to Nerf footballs and baseballs and animals, and more recently to a line of popular foam-based weaponry.

Last week, the Bright’s Grove library branch organized a “Nerf Olympics” for about 50 participants age eight and up.

For 90 minutes, teams used Nerf guns to test their shooting accuracy and participate in a team “man hunt.”

Captured here is some of the fun.
