Sarnia-Lambton’s vaccination rate hit an all-time high last week when nearly 11,500 shots were delivered into the arms of residents, Lambton Public Health says.

“And we still have the capacity to keep going,” said Dr. Sudit Ranade, Lambton’s Medical Officer of Health.

With 110,000 first doses administered as of Wednesday, 72% of adults and 17% of youths have received a first shot, and 27% of adults are fully vaccinated with two doses.

Sarnia-Lambton reported 31 active cases Wednesday with zero outbreaks and seven people in hospital. Sixty-two residents who contracted the virus that causes COVID-19 have died since the pandemic began 18 months ago.

Ranade said seven local cases of the more infectious Delta Variant cases have been confirmed locally.

The spread of the variant first discovered in India likely won’t impact reopening plans but does reinforce the need to get as many people immunized as quickly as possible, he said.

“Get your second dose of whatever vaccine we can give you, because you need to be fully vaccinated.”
