Sarnia’s Jack Nesbitt was selected by the Windsor Spitfires as the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, announced Friday.
The 16-year-old Northern student was the captain and leading scorer with the Lambton Jr. Sting’s AAA U-16 team this past season.
Earlier this year, Nesbitt and Team Ontario won gold at the 2023 Canada Winter Games Men’s Hockey championship in Prince Edward Island. Nesbitt was among 20 players selected to the Team Ontario roster for the Games — held every four years showcasing the top under-16 hockey talent in the country.
He was also selected to the Alliance Hockey AAA All-Star game held in January in Komoka, along with teammates Luke Laevens, Owen Knight and Isaac Truman.
Lambton Jr. Sting coach Brad Riley described Nesbitt as 6’4”, 180lbs and “skilled to the nines,” in an interview with The Journal.
“He’s gifted,” Riley added. “When he’s on the ice, you know he’s a special player, that’s for sure.”
