Sarnia Spirit U18 win division title at AC Douglas Tournament

The Sarnia Spirit U18 squad captured the Silver Division title at the 62nd annual AC Douglas Tournament in Niagara Falls this past weekend. Sarnia started the tournament off Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 will over Vaughn Azzurri.

The Sarnia Spirit U18 squad captured the Silver Division title at the 62nd annual AC Douglas Tournament in Niagara Falls this past weekend.

Sarnia started the tournament off Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 will over Vaughn Azzurri. Farrah Lucas, Mykenna Spowart, Molly Viragos and Tori Johnston scored in the victory.

In game two on Saturday, the Spirit had a convincing 6-0 win over Etobicoke Energy as Johnston had the hat trick, with singles to Lucas, Spowart, and Hayley VanHooft. Victoria Jones picked up the clean sheet. 

The win was enough for Sarnia to earn a bye to the finals Sunday night where their opponent would be the undefeated Kingston Gaels.

Kingston came into the game with a perfect 3-0 record, not having given up a goal all tournament. Sarnia carried at 2-0 lead into halftime and dominated the second half as well. Lucas had a pair, Johnston, Tahlia Kelch and Breanna Trudgeon scored for the Spirit while Paige McKinlay and Jones shared the clean sheet.

Sarnia has a busy week ahead, with a home game Wednesday night against Oakridge and the all-important District Cup playoffs this weekend in London.
