Christian Kyrou will follow his big brother's footsteps in donning the Sarnia Sting jersey, the club announced, Wednesday.
The Erie Otters defenceman — whose brother Jordan Kyrou made his OHL debut with the Sting back in 2014, and currently plays for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues — was acquired by the club in exchange for defenceman Alexis Daviault, two second round picks, and a third, fourth and fifth round pick.
"Christian is one of, if not the, premier offensive defenceman in this league,” Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said in a release. “His combination of skill, creativity and competitiveness is something we've been looking to add.
“We believe this will boost our powerplay and provide another mature player for our backend. It's also exciting to add the brother of Jordan Kyrou, we know this is an equally exciting day for the Kyrou family."
Kyrou, a 5'11" offensive defenceman from Komoka, Ontario was selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 50th overall in the 2022 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft this past spring. Through 116 career Ontario Hockey League (OHL) games, Kyrou has collected 26 goals and 70 assists for a total of 96 points.
Over the last two seasons, the 19-year-old has consistently ranked amongst the League's top defencemen in scoring. This season, Kyrou has tallied 8 goals and 28 assists through 27 games played, placing him second amongst OHL defencemen.
