Traffic Stop Leads to Drugs and Firearms Charges

In the early morning hours on August 28th, 2024, a member of the Operations Division noted a vehicle commiting traffic infractions, in the area of Confederation Street and Indian Road.  Upon pulling the vehicle over, officers noted that the vehicle occupants were also in violation of the Cannabis Control Act, as they appeared to be smoking cannabis within the vehicle.

One of the passengers in the vehicle falsely identified himself, and a seperate pasenger in the vehicle had warrants for his arrest stemming from a previous investigation.  As the passenger with warrants was arrested, he reached for one of the items seized, and then resisted the officers attempts to place him in handcuffs.  His attempts, were subdued by the officers in attendance.

As a result of the search stemming from these arrests, officers located the following items:

  • A loaded flare gun (located on the torso of one of the males)
  • fifteen (15) hydromorphone tablets (dilaudid)
  • 5.6 grams of fentanyl
  • 15 additional rounds for the flare gun
  • 2 knives, one of which was a folding knife in the shape of a firearm

A 28 Year old of Sarnia, is facing the following criminal charges:

  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Firearm - Use While Commiting Offence
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (3 Counts)
  • Carry a Concealed Weapon (3 Counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Possess Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (3 Counts)
  • Possess Schedule I Substance - Hydromorphone
  • Possess Schedule I Substance - Fentanyl

A 19 Year old of Toronto, is facing the following criminal charge:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer

Both Males were held for overnight by the Sarnia Police for a bail hearing.  They have both subsequently been released by the courts with pending court dates.
