Historic George Street School Bell Recovered

On the 15th of July 2024, Sarnia Police was called to investigate the theft of an historic item, which was displayed in the downtown core. The George Street School Bell was on display on the grounds of the Lochiel-Kiwanis Center at 180 College Avenue, North and is an important part of Sarnia's history.

As a result of this ongoing investigation, investigators developed information on the whereabouts of the stolen bell.  Police were able to recover it, with only minor damage to the top supporting ring.  

On July 31st, 2024, SPS plain clothes officers returned the bell to the Sarnia Kiwanis Club at the community centre.  

"I am so pleased that this irreplaceable piece of our City's history has been recovered.  I commend our Major Case Action Team investigators for their tenacity in recovering the bell, and for their ongoing efforts to bring those responsible before the courts."  Chief Derek Davis
