The Sarnia Police Service is reminding the community that additional officers will be on patrol today for Halloween to ensure the safety of all trick-or-treaters and residents. Officers will be stationed in neighbourhoods, on bicycles, and in cruisers to provide extra support, monitor traffic, and engage with the public throughout the evening.
Key measures for tonight include:
Neighbourhood Patrols: Officers will be highly visible in residential areas to ensure that children and families can trick-or-treat safely.
Community Engagement: Officers on bikes and on foot will be stopping to greet trick-or-treaters. If you see officers out, say "hi"!
Deputy Chief Van Sickle encourages everyone to enjoy the festivities responsibly: "Halloween is a great time for families to have fun, but it is important to remain cautious. We have extra officers on duty to ensure that the community stays safe, and we are here to help wherever needed. Do not hesitate to approach our officers with any concerns."
Safety Tips for Tonight:
For Parents: Make sure your children are visible by using reflective gear or glow sticks. Accompany young children and remind them to only visit well-lit houses.
For Drivers: Slow down in residential areas and watch carefully for children crossing streets.
For Trick-or-Treaters: Stay on sidewalks, cross streets at corners, and travel in groups.
The Sarnia Police Service will be available throughout the night for any emergencies or concerns. Non-emergency issues can be reported to 519-344-8861 and in case of emergency, dial 911.
Deputy Chief Van Sickle concluded, "Our goal is to make sure that Halloween is both fun and safe for everyone. We ask that all residents be mindful of each other and take the necessary precautions to keep the evening accident-free."
