Sarnia-based Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC) has invested $1 million in a growing company that converts plastic it diverts from landfill into commercial products.

GreenMantra Technologies Ltd. used old bottles, plastic bags, films and even polystyrene - which is not accepted in many blue box programs - and recycles them into waxes and specialty plastics for industrial applications.

“We are enabling a more circular economy where plastics are beneficially reused rather than landfilled,” the Brantford-based company says.

BIC is a not-for-profit business accelerator that uses federal funding to provide advice and financial support to help companies commercialize sustainable chemistry and bio-based products.
