We as a community, as are many other communities, are working towards possible solutions to housing and homelessness. We are encouraged by the community forums that have been held to keep people informed as to the progress being made, and to give people a voice.
My husband and I give leadership to a charitable organization called nightlight Sarnia. nightlight Sarnia is a downtown drop-in centre located at 181 Christina Street N. that provides a safe place for meaningful relationships. We offer free coffee and snacks as well as games and good conversation to help build a community of support and friendship.
Our mission is to care for and be a network of support for those who are struggling with relational poverty, mental health, addiction, or homelessness. Mother Teresa said that one of the most devastating forms of poverty is relational poverty. Many people who enter our doors are finding hope and encouragement from a community who cares about them.
Because we are a charitable organization we depend on donations to keep our doors open. We would like to inform your readers about a fundraiser that is happening Friday Oct. 4 at the Sarnia Library theatre. We are having three time "Entertainer of the Year" award winner Bob Cates, giving his amazing performance "Comedy in Motion".
We also have a live auction which can be accessed on our nightlight Sarnia Facebook page. Tickets can also be purchased through the Facebook page, or at nightlight (Tuesdays & Wednesdays 6-9 p.m. & Thursdays 1-4 p.m.) or at the library the evening of Oct 4. Doors open at 6:30.
We appreciate our community's support.
Sincerely, Gwen & Murray Stephenson
