Surrounded by his family, Pete passed away on Friday March 14, 2025.
Pete was born in Surhuisterveen, Netherlands March 4, 1945. His family immigrated to Canada, landing at Pier 21 in Halifax on May 29, 1952 and moved to the Holland Marsh where they farmed a dairy and pig farm.
He attended Western University and obtained his Bachelor’s of Education. He taught at the Christian School in London to start his career. He married Linda Rupke in 1970.  In 1973 they moved to Simcoe where he served as the Principal at Jarvis District Christian School. Former students will remember Mr. Weening as a little bit eccentric, a math whiz, and a teacher who always met them where they were with humour and compassion.
In Simcoe they started their family with Charlotte, Jeff, Justin, Jon and Chris. They moved out of town to a small acreage where Pete renewed his farm labourer skills with a giant vegetable garden.
They moved to Sarnia in 1986 where he worked as Principal of Sarnia Christian School until he retired in 2006. He continued to support his community as a supply teacher and active volunteer with First Christian Reformed Church, Community Garden, Rotary Club, and Vision Nursing Home.
In 2023, after Linda had a stroke, he packed up their home of 35 years and they moved to an accessible apartment on the waterfront. He diligently cared for Linda’s every need there and even learned to cook and bake and host card nights with their friends.
His humour, model of practical Christian faith, and loving care will be missed by his many friends and large family. He has gone ahead to heaven to be with his son Justin. Left behind are his wife Linda, children Charlotte (Shane), Jeff (Melanee), Jon (Jami) and Chris (Krista) and grandchildren Ali, Waylon, Emerson, Eliot, Raina, Ari, Lydia, Ellie, Myah, Addie, Hudsen, Lillie and Evie.
Family and friends will be received at First Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Exmouth St., Sarnia, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Exmouth St. Sarnia on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 12:00 pm. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to NeighbourLink or the Inn of the Good Shepherd (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
