On Monday January 6, 2025, Rene Joseph Warnez passed away peacefully at age 89 at Lambton Meadowview Villa.
Best friend, loving and devoted husband of Marilyn Warnez (Van Valkenburg), married for 63 wonderful years and together almost 70 years from their first date.
Loving father of Scott (Monique) and Kara (Brian). Cherished grandfather of Heather, David (Fernanda), Christine and Tyler. Uncle to Glen, Stephen, Jana, Rick, Mike, Pat, Brian and David.
Predeceased by his parents Cyriel and Anna Warnez, his brothers Remi and Fred Warnez, and his sister Mary Crombeen (Warnez).
Rene’s legacy is defined by what he has built; he will live on through his family, friends, and his creations.
A skilled mechanic, Rene retired as the Supervisor of Fleet Maintenance for the City of Sarnia. Known for his extensive knowledge of all things mechanical he was sought out whenever there was a problem, and he was always willing to help. Anything he designed and built was certain to be simple, elegant and robust. Highly skilled with his hands he was equally adept at working with metal or wood.
Retirement allowed Rene more time to pursue his loves and develop new passions. Rene built and showed his beloved 1929 Ford Model A, ‘The Hot Rod’ at local car shows and parades. He developed a passion for carving and wood working; many family and friends are the proud owners of carved wooden ice skates and Santa Claus Christmas ornaments. Perhaps his greatest joy was from supporting Marilyn in her interests including playing the organ and gardening.
Rene maintained and nurtured many strong lifetime friendships; no matter where he went you could be assured that he would know someone quite well.
Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Rene’s wishes no formal ceremonies are planned, a private graveside service will be held for the immediate family.
Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
