It is with loving hearts that we sadly announce the peaceful passing of Muriel Helen Vickers (nee Davis) on November 3, 2024, in her 93rd year, with her family by her side.
Beloved wife of the late William Samuel Vickers (1994). Loving mother of Paul Vickers (Becky McFadden), Donna Mathers (John), Diana McCaig, Darcy McIntyre and Sean Doherty. Proud grandmother of Craig Vickers, Becky Stillman (Philip), Dan Petru, Ken Haley (Maria), Gordon Mathers (Tara), Michelle Therrien (Ken), Katie McCaig (Kevin Vandendool), Scott McIntyre (Tegan Tennant), Paul McIntyre, Charlie McIntyre (Jessie Williams), Marley Sewell (Carl) and to sixteen great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her eight siblings, her daughter Debbie Smith (2020) and her grandson Billy Haley (2015).
Muriel was born in Grimsby and moved to Goderich in 1945 where she met her future husband William (Bill). They married in 1949 and later settled in Sarnia where she started her family. She had a sense of adventure, loved to laugh and travel the world. She was involved with Miniatures and the Red Hat Society. Her favourite moments were family gatherings, crafting, socializing, watching boats under the Bluewater Bridge and spending time with her cats Panda and Odie.
Muriel was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, and loyal friend with a sharp sense of humour who loved a good dirty joke. She loved to talk about her adventures and was a friendly face who would chat with anyone. She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and fur babies, Panda and Odie.
Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date.
An Irish Funeral Prayer
Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.
