Born October 23rd, 1937. June passed away peacefully at Bear Creek Terrace in Petrolia on Thursday October 10th, 2024, in her 87th year. June is survived by her husband and best friend of 59 years John “Jack” Leonard VerBeem, her sister Sharon (William) Anderson, her brother’s in-law Don (Donna) VerBeem, and Bill (Fran) VerBeem, and several cousins. She is predeceased by her parents Mary (nee Dubec) McCormick and John “Jack” Franklin McCormick, aunts, uncles, and several cousins. June enjoyed a distinguished career as an elementary school teacher. She was also a certified driving instructor. June took great pride in her numerous flower gardens. An accomplished artist, she skillfully and beautifully portrayed many of her garden’s blooms in watercolor. June and Jack enjoyed many travel adventures throughout their marriage. The Dutchie II, docked at the Sarnia Yacht Club, provided their weekend relaxation for many years. In retirement, they spent winter months in Florida enjoying the camaraderie of their American friends. When Jack became ill, June looked after him for several years at home until she herself became ill. Jack moved to Bear Creek Terrace in Petrolia, and eventually so did June. June very much appreciated the help, support, and kindness she received from the family, close friends, and caring neighbors during that difficult time. Thank you to Dr. Mall and all the staff at Bear Creek Terrace. Your compassion for and care of June was very much appreciated. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Bluewater Health and London Health Science Centre who helped June throughout her medical journey. June will be lovingly remembered and missed. Cremation has taken place, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. An interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sarnia. In lieu of flowers, a donation to one of June's charities of choice would be appreciated; Pathways Health Centre for Children, Huron Boys Home, Diabetes Canada, Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs, Bluewater Health Foundation (CEE Petrolia Hospital Site) or the Sarnia Humane Society.
