John Andrew Veenendaal peacefully passed away at the age of 86 on December 31, 2024, at St. Joseph's Hospice in Sarnia, Ontario, surrounded by his loving family. He is now at peace with our Lord and Savior. John was the beloved husband of Betty Anne Veenendaal (2022), with whom he shared an incredible marriage lasting 60 years. Together, they developed a warm and welcoming home built on a foundation of love, unwavering faith, and strong family bonds, creating countless cherished memories John was a devoted father to Renee (Mark) Faasse, Derek (Kristen) Veenendaal, and Trevor (Lisa) Veenendaal. He was also a cherished Opa to Carli (Vlad), Zach (Rian), Abby (Brock), Noah, Clara, Spencer, and Ian. Born on March 6, 1938, John was the son of Dirk and Jeanette Veenendaal. His stepmother Josina sister Janet and her husband Harry Antonides preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving brother, Will, and sister-in-law, Erie Veenendaal along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will fondly remember him. John was a devoted follower of Jesus and played a significant role in the building of many Chris-tian Reformed Church’s with his father. Throughout his life, he hosted and led Men's Life prayer groups and provided unwavering support to his family, friends, and church community. Professionally, John was a carpenter who owned his own construction company John Veenendaal Construction, a cabinet maker at Dow Chemicals MCR Group and subsequently, KV Renovations Ltd. He used his talents, time, and resources to bless family and friends alike. In his retirement, he found joy in crafting birdhouses, finishing projects around the family home, and enjoying week-ends at Lakewood Christian Campground. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nursing staff, and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their exceptional care, dedication, and support during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Exmouth St., Sarnia, on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or World Renew (cheques only at the funeral home please).
