Frances Varga passed away peacefully at Twin Lakes as the sun rose on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Frances (Fran) A. Kahanek born June 9, 1939, in Tilbury, Ontario. Predeceased by her husband Jozef Varga, her parents Frank and Frances Mary Kahanek, brother Fredrick and sister Veronica “Ronnie” Bellyk. She leaves behind her beloved niece Cindy (Brent) Smith, nephew Danny (Wendy) Bellyk, grand nieces and nephews Jennifer, Christopher, Alysha, Josh, as well as great-nephews and a great-niece.
Frances was born in Tilbury, a few years later the family moved to a farm in Lambton County. Fran attended elementary and high school in Sarnia. She worked as an administrative assistant in Regina and Toronto before returning to Sarnia to work at Petrosar. She finished her career as the administrative assistant at CEE Hospital in Petrolia.
Fran appreciated fine art and beautiful furniture, she loved to sketch and draw when time permitted. Fran and Joe enjoyed many winters in Port Charlotte, Florida until she was no longer able to travel. Fran enjoyed the birthday lunches with the Slovak ladies as well as all the many celebrations in the Slovak church hall. We will remember Fran as that “Ray of Sunshine” lighting up our lives.
Cindy, along with Larry and Kathy Sterling, are grateful to the Twin Lakes staff for the care, support and encouragement given to Frances. Special thanks and gratitude to Brent Smith, Helen Bartos, Janice (goddaughter) and her husband Mark Newell, Joe and JoJo Kyksa as well as Clint Kyksa for their love and support over the years.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
