For 71 years, Barry Tidball lived the simple charm of small-town life, always in motion with new opportunities, loving deeply, and learning continuously. On Friday, October 25, 2024, Barry passed unexpectedly and peacefully in his new home in Sarnia.
He was the wonderful loving husband of Glenda Tidball for over 28 wonderful years. As the years rolled along, Barry became the proud father to Brent Tidball (Shannon), Andrew Nelson (Kristy) and Michelle Hoogstra (Klaas). With genuine happiness, he celebrated the milestone of becoming a grandfather to Keegan (Jordan), Cameron, Makayla, Alex, Heleena and Travis.
Growing up, Barry’s family hub instilled in him a solid work ethic as he farmed alongside his mother, Betty (2010), father, Don (1992), siblings Helen (Dave), Cheryl (Ken), Ronald (Jeannette), Bob (2000) (Faye) and his younger brother, Raymond (2004) (Sue), in the township of Bosanquet. Barry’s family grew to include his in-laws, Chuck (Teri) Brownlee, Irene (Mike) Rose and Sue VanEkren (2018).
Through the years Barry was always moving forward, taking on new directions and accomplishments. He became a well-known builder and truck driver, each milestone met with his signature dry sense of humour and a tone that kept you on your toes. Investing in youth, Barry was a supporter of minor hockey, serving on the coaching staff at Thedford Arena and enjoying time socializing with local hockey parents and fans.
For over thirty years Barry plowed the local roadways during the winter, later driving those same roadways as a school bus driver. Each of these roles gave Barry the skills and talents that led him to serve as Superintendent at the Thedford Housing and Seniors Complex, where he worked with dedication for 17 years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 182 Main Street, Thedford, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Following the service, a luncheon celebrating Barry’s life and impact will be held at the Thedford Legion, 42 Nelson Street, Thedford.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Sarnia and District Humane Society.
