With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gerald “Gerry” Albert Thomas, born December 6, 1936, and passing on Sunday, March 9, at the age of 88. Gerry was the beloved husband of the late Betty Thomas nee Genyn (1934-2021). He had six siblings: Lillian, Mary, Elsie, Frances, Wilf and Dewey, all predeceased.
Loving father of Richard Low (Karen), Robert Low (pre deceased), Alan Low, David Low (Rose), Andy Low (Joanne), Deborah Thomas (Mark), a proud and loving papa to Nicole, Jason, Mike, Kristen, Dave, Rob, Chris, Chance, Spencer, Amber, Gillian, Alyssa and Stephen, Jason, Brad, Sam (Cayle), Brad (Grace), and Jess.
Gerry was a great grandpapa to Cody, Braden, Christian, Riley, Olivia, Sophia, Avery, Caden, Olivia, Sophia, Dillon, Connor, Jayden, Bailey, Jace, Caitlin, Qayla, Robbie, Triston, Calvin, Alec, Dominick, Brayden, Owen, Avah, Avery, Arie (predeceased), Kelsey, Rilee, Wyatt, Sawyer, Rhys, and Lillian.
Gerry retired from Waltec Forgings after previously working for Skinner and Laprise. When Betty was alive, she and Gerry often visited casinos and bingo halls. Gerry enjoyed baseball, hockey, football, golf, and curling, with his favorite teams being the Habs and the Blue Jays. In his younger years, Gerry loved fishing, golfing, and spending time in his garden. Even later, he thoroughly enjoyed a tomato fresh out of the garden. He enjoyed his time at Rochester Place, near Belle River, and was looking forward to returning there in May.
Although he had no biological children, Gerry cherished his stepchildren. As much as we are saddened by this loss, we are happy that Gerry has been reunited with his hunny bunny, Betty.
Rest easy, Gerry. You have earned your wings. You will be missed.
At Gerry’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service and celebration of life will be held in April under the care of the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231).
