Simmons- Peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Bluewater Health, Sarnia on Friday January 5, 2024. Jacqueline “Jackie” Simmons, age 93 years of Sarnia and formerly of Corunna. Jackie, the daughter of Pearl and Byron Johnston, was born and raised in Courtright. She married Paul Simmons of Corunna in 1949. Jackie deeply loved her family and friends, warm weather, and the St. Clair River. She was always up for a friendly lunch, an exciting party, European river cruise, or a competitive game of bowling. Jackie had many life-long friendships, several originating in childhood. She attended St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Courtright her entire life and worked at the Sarnia Courthouse for many years. Upon retirement she travelled the world, dragging Paul (or so he said) along behind her. Jackie is survived by her daughter Lynn Zachmeyer of California and son Michael of Sarnia, two grandsons Adam (Susan) and Sam (Taryn), granddaughter Jennifer Welch, and four great-grandsons. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Paul (2014) and by her son John (2023). In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in Sutherland Cemetery, Courtright in the summer. As expressions of sympathy friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Bluewater Health Palliative Care Unit.
