It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected death of our son Alex Sabourin on Saturday July 13, 2024, in Vancouver BC at the age of 28 years.

Alex is the deeply loved son of Carolyn Brown (John Burke) and Luc Sabourin (Lisa Guthrie), cherished older brother of Emma Sabourin and Matthew Sabourin, and treasured grandson of Nancy Brown.

Alex was the loving and devoted father of Mila Sabourin and will be missed by Mila’s mother Ashley Dulacka, her parents Michelle Gvora and Rob Dulacka along with Ashley’s brother Brandon Dulacka, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alex is also remembered by his Aunt Cathy Brown (Shane Calhoun), Aunt Chantal Kerr (Ray Kerr), special cousin Nick Brown (Ashley Nutt) and his God parents Colleen and Kevin Cook.

Alex was an honours graduate of Northern High School in Sarnia Ontario and studied at Western University and Toronto Metropolitan University, but his true passion was being a father to Mila, who he loved with all his heart.

Watching Alex parent Mila was pure joy and he cherished every moment he spent with her.

Alex was kind, sensitive, compassionate and would do anything to help someone out. His smile was genuine and warm, and he loved his family deeply.

Alex’s creative talents were showcased through his creation of music, including original songs performed by him, artwork and poetry. Alex also loved acting and took lessons while residing in Las Vegas, as he was passionate about films and filmmaking. As a child and youth, Alex was an avid guitar player.

Alex spent his childhood and youth enjoying many active family outings to the cottage in Oxtongue Lake, skiing at Blue Mountain and camping throughout Ontario.

Alex loved the water and was in a canoe from the time he could sit on his own.

Many recent memories were made with Alex in Las Vegas; hiking the trails in Red Rock Canyon, seeking out the best Mexican food or doughnuts and playing with Mila in the pool or playground. Alex was strong, active, loved the outdoors and found peace in nature and the shoreline.

Alex had a second family in Las Vegas; the people in the rooms of recovery at AA who loved and supported him. Our family will be forever grateful for the support and love Alex received from his friends in AA.

Alex lived with the pain of addiction for years and fought a tireless and courageous battle against the disease. He continued to get back up to fight another day, because he loved, and he knew he was loved beyond measure by all who knew him.

We will fill our broken hearts with the wonderful memories we have of Alex. It will be through those stores and memories that Mila will grow up knowing what a wonderful, kind and loving man her father was.

A Celebration of Alex’s Life will be announced in the coming days. Please bring memories and stories to share.

As well, if you have special memories of Alex to share with Mila, a box will be available for letters and cards, which will be meaningful to her as she grows.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you do a random act of kindness for someone, as Alex would be honoured that we are helping others, as he would have done.

Sympathy may also be expressed through a donation to The Inn of the Good Shepherd or your local Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facility. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
