Carlyle (Carl) David Russell died peacefully after a short but courageous battle at the age of 59. Predeceased by his parents Thomas Carlyle (1996) and Elizabeth (2021).
Survived by loving wife Lori (nee Speelman), daughters Rebekah (Chase) and Sarah, grandchildren Kinsley and Charlotte, and his dogs Milo and Lily. Cherished brother of Brett (Caroline) Russell, brother-in-law to Debbie (Tim), Peter (Jennifer),Eric (Shawna), Brian (Aleshia), Dan (Jill), son-in-law of Arie (the late JoAnn) and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Carl was born in Weston, ON and was raised in the Forest area. He spent his adult life in Sarnia. Carl was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leaf and Toronto Blue Jays fan. He always enjoyed listening to Rush and spending time with his German short haired pointer dogs. He was an officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre of the Canadian Armed Forces for over 40 years. During that time, he paraded with 11 different cadet corps, acting as the Commanding Officer for 3 of the corps. As such Carl influenced many hundreds of Canada’s finest youths.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Canadian Cancer Society, the 2563 Lambton County Cadet Corps, or St Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
