Going Home

On November 29, Kenneth Roy passed away at the age of 88. He died living life his way.
He is survived by his wife, Luella Mary Roy; his daughters: Wendy Chetney (Doug Hough) and Lisa Fulham; his stepson Mark Wetering (Darlene Coke); his grandchildren: Justin Chetney, Kari Bouthillet (Devin), and Paul Fulham, Jr.; and his great-granddaughter, Teagan Bouthillet. He is predeceased by his first wife, Carolle Roy, his parents Leslie and Albina (Pitre) and his step-mother, Norma (Girvan), and all his siblings: Dorothy, Stanley, Geneva, and Ronald.

Born in Atholville, NB, Ken moved to Sarnia in the late 1950s for a job at Dow Chemical where he was employed until retirement. In retirement, he and his first wife, Carolle, enjoyed travelling in their RV, visiting family and friends, and spending time as snowbirds in Florida while volunteering with a local church mission group.

Ken loved hockey. As a teenager, he was a part of the Campbellton Cubs that claimed the New Brunswick – Prince Edward Island Juvenile Championship in 1952-53. He played for recreation as an adult as well and followed his Maple Leafs during the season.

Ken loved the outdoors. As a child, he hunted and fished with his father in New Brunswick; as an adult, he hunted with friends in Northern Ontario. Annual family visits to New Brunswick always included fiddlehead picking, digging for clams, and subsequent clam bakes on the beach. Ken loved to ride his motorcycle on the open road. He loved picnics, camping, and berry-picking. His home-made jams were treasured by everyone who had the privilege of tasting them.

An intensely spiritual man, Ken followed the teachings of Jesus Christ every day and in everything he did. He was an earnest reader of the Bible. He valued hard work and providing for his family. He took special pride in his home and garden, gifting friends and neighbors with the fruits of his labor. He loved his cats and cared for the wildlife in his backyard, making sure that the squirrels, chipmunks, birds, ducks, and other creatures had enough to sustain themselves. He was a long-time supporter of the Teen Challenge, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and the Red Cross (where he donated over 150 pints of blood throughout the years).
He will be missed by all.

Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in "Kenneth's Guestbook" at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com.
