Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on September 23, 2024, Allan Keith Richards passed away at Marshall Gowland Manor at the age of 80.  Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Campbell) for 58 years.  Loving father to Karen (Mike) Moore, Alex Richards and Laura (Ed) Schleihauf. Cherished Papa to Alexia (Tyler) and Robert Moore, Evelyn, Joel and Claire Schleihauf.  Uncle to Jane (Richard) Bourque, John (Barb) Richards and Kristine (Jamie) Nadeau.  Allan is also survived by many cousins in Canada and the United States.  Predeceased by parents James and Thelma (Howe) Richards, brother Jim Richards and nephew Scott Richards.  Much loved Papa to many fur “grand-babies” over the years. Allan enjoyed family meals, especially when there was pumpkin, rhurbarb or apple pie for dessert!  He often joked that he was thankful the meal was better than his standby peanut butter sandwich. He believed that leftover pie is the best breakfast food.

Allan retired from Dow Chemical after 38 years as an electrician.  He was a volunteer with Scouts Canada for 55 years.  Allan loved the outdoors and gardening and shoveling snow.  Allan was an avid reader and still enjoyed reading newspapers.   He spent much of his time at the Attawandaron Scout Camp near the Pinery as a leader to youth in earlier years and an active member of the Camp Committee in later years.  Thank you to Scouter Dan Van Nice for his unwavering friendship and weekly visits these past months.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Leonard and staff and physicians at CEE Hospital Petrolia, Bluewater Health Rehabilitation floor, and Marshall Gowland Manor.   We are forever grateful for the wonderful care Allan received.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. with family and friends received one hour prior from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Scouts Canada specifically for Attawandaron Scout Camp, Parkinsons Society Southwestern Ontario, or the Sarnia & District Humane Society (cheques only at the funeral home, please).
