Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Jim Miller passed away at the age of 77. He was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humour. Jim believed strongly in the importance of education as the key to leading a successful life. Jim’s core values included fairness, generosity, and a “live and let live” mentality which he instilled deeply into his children. Always an advocate for the underdog, Jim believed that truth, common sense and justice were key principles that should guide one’s life. Jim was also a lover of country music, proudly starting the first ever Stompin’ Tom Connors fan club in Timmins, Ontario whilst still in high school. A massive sports fanatic, Jim enjoyed playing golf, tennis, softball and curling. As the years went on, he became a champion shuffleboard and bocci ball player. A voracious reader, Jim spent his remaining years basking in the Florida sun with a book in one hand and a beer in the other. Jim is survived and will forever be loved and remembered by his wife of 54 years Patricia (Pat), his children and grandchildren including daughters Jaime (Harrison, Simon and Netanis), Jodi, Stacey (Sephora and Apollo), and son Bradley.
The family is very thankful to Dr. Buckton for his wonderful care over the years as well as the staff at St. Joseph’s hospice, the Bluewater Health Palliative Care team with a special thank you to Dr. MacSweeney for the kindness and compassion she exhibited throughout Jim’s final months.
Cremation has taken place. A private time of tribute was held to honour Jim’s life.
Jim’s family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers a donation is made to St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia, Ontario.
