Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Trillium Villa, Donald James Messham passed away at the age of 87.
Beloved husband to Ruth for 63 years. They met at Woolworths and shared a love of the Bing Crosby song “I found a million dollar baby (in a 5 and 10 cent store)”.
Loving father of Kim (Eric) VanDam and Kathy Messham (Geoffrey Milligan).
His legacy extends through his beloved grandchildren Colin (Cassie) VanDam, Sara (Joe) Machen and Aidan Milligan (Shoko). GG Don adored and cherished his great-grandchildren Aubrey, Lucy and Christopher VanDam. He is predeceased by his parents George and Dorothy and siblings Leslie, Gwen and Billy. In addition to his role as a loving family man, Don dedicated many years of his life to the Sentry department store where he was the general manager. He was known for his kind leadership and made a lasting impact. Don had a passion for life and laughter, and he always had a funny story or joke to tell. He loved his dogs, and his days were brightened by their companionship. His skilled hands crafted beautiful wood carvings and stained glass art, reflecting his artistic spirit. Family gatherings filled with good food brought him immense happiness.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Sarnia & District Humane Society (cheques only at the funeral home please).
