At her residence at Afton Park Place, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John McRae (Jack) (2016), her parents Frank and Irene Sewter, her dear sister Dorothy (2012) and her treasured eldest son John McRae (2022). She is survived by her late son John's wife Diane McRae, her cherished sons, Michael (Sandi), and Ken (Stephanie), grandchildren, Angela (Derek), Amanda (Sean), Shawn, Erin (James), and Jason (Jennifer) and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kaidence and Jack. She also leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The memories that were made by knowing Joan will forever be with us. Summers spent at the cottages, exploring Niagara Falls, learning how to play multiple games of cards, fishing and swimming in our beautiful surrounding lakes, or just sitting and listening to all the funny stories of her past will be what we hold dear. Joan and Jack shared a love that was seen and heard by anyone who knew them, and knowing she is back in his arms is a comfort we hold close to our hearts.

Joan was such a likable person and a social butterfly within her community. Growing up in Saskatchewan, she moved to Sarnia as a young girl and fit right into the neighborhood, while making lifelong friends who were by her side through sickness and health. Joan’s absence will be deeply felt, not just by her immediate family, but also by the extended family she collected over the years.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial will be held in the weeks to come. Sympathy may be expressed through a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society at https://cancer.ca or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada at https://alzheimer.ca

The arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St, Sarnia, ON, N7T 5W9). Memories and messages of condolence may be sent through www.djrobb.on.ca
