Surrounded by his loving family at home, Mervin Malcolm McLay passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 78. Merv was the beloved husband of Mary for 56 years and a devoted father to his children, the late Mark (1975), Sean McLay, Darryl McLay, and Shawna McLay. He was a proud Gramp to Brennen (Samantha) McLay, Ryley (Arianna Martin) McLay, Logan (Abigail Gould) McLay, and a cherished Great Gramp to Jack, Abigail, Amy, and baby McLay.
Merv will be deeply missed by his siblings, Adelle (Ron) Caesar, Barry (Sue) McLay, and his sisters-in-law, Marie McLay and Joan McLay. He was predeceased by his siblings Verniece (Bob) Richardson, Bobby McLay, Chuck (Rita) McLay, and Milt McLay.
Known affectionately as "The General" by his beloved grandchildren, Merv's life was defined by his unwavering love for his family. His passion for life extended to his work as a skilled heavy equipment operator, a rare talent that allowed him to build a home for his family in Alberta.
Merv's larger-than-life presence will be remembered fondly by his extended family and all who knew him. His legacy will live on through the memories of his devotion, strength, and love for those he held dear.
A private family gathering at the graveside will take place at Wyoming Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to your local food bank as a tribute to Merv's lifelong spirit of giving.
