Carol was born on March 6th, 1946, in Almonte, Ontario to Mary and Victor Shail. Carol grew up in Carlton Place, Ontario on a dairy farm on the 9th line of Beckwith Township. She was a proud “farmgirl” and loved to share stories of her youth with her family on the farm.

Carol cherished the friendships she made over the years and will be missed by many. Carol was an incredible mother and grandmother and loved her family immensely. Her family will treasure the wonderful memories of family dinners, barbeques by the pool, and seeing Mom/Grandma in the stands of the many sporting events, school activities, and theatre productions they took part in.

Carol was a fiercely competitive athlete and played many sports from youth into adulthood including basketball, baseball, volleyball, badminton, and golf. Bringing home a silver medal at the National Senior Games in badminton doubles and sinking a hole in one on the links. In her later years, her competitive spirit took her to playing cards. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Pepper, and bid Euchre. Mom considered many of the card players to be her good friends. Carol was a very compassionate person and had a wonderful sense of sarcastic humour.

Carol wanted to thank the team at Bluewater Health for her care during her brief illness. Thank you to Dr. Lebert for her care during her treatments. She especially wanted to thank the nurses and doctors from ICU including but not limited to nurses Roberta, Jenn, Tracie, Gina, Cory, Kelly, Diane Tory, Allison, Luke, Michelle and Heather, support workers Karen and Neena, respiratory therapist Sam, and doctors, including resident Kate, Dr. McCreedy, Dr. Naidu, and Dr. Al.
