It is with heavy hearts, but gratitude for a life well lived, that the family of Lois Marley announces her passing on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the age of 90.
Lois lost the love of her life, Paul, in 2022 after 65 years of married life. Paul's passing left a huge void in Lois's life, but with the support of family and friends, she continued to enjoy a very active and varied life.
Lois was the proud mother of her three children and their spouses, Ian & Sharon, Jill & Scott, Stephen & Beth; and her 6 Grandchildren- Marlee Leedham-Birchall (Richard), Kevin Marley (Lindsay), Megan Leedham-Berkers (Mark), Colin Marley (Johanna), Daniel Marley and Sophie Marley.
The most recent edition to the family, her Great Grandson Charlie Berkers, held a special place in Lois's heart.
Lois was the only daughter of Jim & Lyla Gray and sister to six brothers. Lois was predeceased by four of her brothers Goldie (Jean), Alex (Bernice), Kenneth (Maxine), and Eugene. Lois will be greatly missed by her brothers Bill & Keith (Wendy), who she shared a special bond with. Also left to mourn Lois are numerous nephews and nieces, and dear friends.
Lois grew up on a farm outside of Wyoming. Lois met the love of her life, Paul when they were 12 years old. She would go on to be a teacher and Paul a Pharmacist. After teaching for a few years Lois joined Paul in operating "Paul Marley Pharmacy", which they did for 45 successful years.
The corner stones of Lois’s life centered around family, her church, music and friends.
Lois was a loving and devoted mom, grandmother and great grandmother. If at all possible, she never missed an event that involved her family and provided her support and guidance whenever needed. Lois had a strong relationship with her brother’s, and after her mother’s death became the glue that kept the family together.
Lois's life was greatly enriched through music. From the age of 12 years until her passing at age 90 Lois was always a member of a community and/or church choir. Throughout their lives, Paul & Lois enjoyed attending church concerts and musicals.
Wyoming United church and religion played a prominent role in Lois's life. She taught Sunday School, was a superintendent, held positions on the board and of course sang in the choir. In her 60s, Lois studied to be a lay minister and for close to 30 years she was sought after to conduct church services throughout Lambton County. Lois even presided over 2 church services after turning 90!
Lois and Paul surrounded themselves with wonderful friends. Paul would marvel at how Lois could keep track of so many people’s birthdays, anniversaries, and know all about their children and grandchildren. Lois was genuinely interested in others and was a fabulous conversationalist.
Blessed with a sharp mind until her passing, Lois was an avid reader of books, newspapers and Facebook! She had a keen interest in politics that she says she got from her father and was always up to date on current events.
Lois lived a wonderful life.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lois’s caregivers (Sarah, Judy, Irene, Czarina and Madeline ) who provided her with exceptional and loving care and enabled her to remain in her home. Many friends and relatives visited Lois on a regular basis and we are so thankful for their support.
