Frederick (Fred) Major passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side at Marshall Gowland Manor on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 86.

Fred will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn Major. Cherished father of the late Stephen Francis (the late Sandra Thomas) and Linda Major. Loving Poppy of Shelby (Otis), Leeann, Grant (Kate), Erin (Vince), Meaghan (Brian), Jeremy, and Lauren (Austin). Adored Grand Poppy of Josh, Ian, Matthew, Maddie, Samantha, and Harper. Brother of Harold Major and the late Raymond Major.  Fred also had a sister Joan and brother-in-law John Burns with whom he shared a very close relationship.  Brother-in-law to the late Glenn and Judy Armstrong.  Uncle to Christopher, David, the late Kevin, Todd, Lee Aaron, Fred, the late Shawn and Tracey. Predeceased by his parents Frederick and Mildred Major.

Fred was born on January 5, 1937, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, raised in Alberta, and moved to Ontario around the age of 16. He met the love of his life, Marilyn, in Scarborough, Ontario. They were married and he helped raise her two children, Stephen and Linda. Together, the two of them worked to make a life full of love, family, and dedication. Their days consisted of hard work taking care of their farm, morning coffee while playing cards, visits from their grandchildren, and lots of laughter with Fred’s sense of humor.

In addition to spending time with his family, Fred enjoyed independent activities where he could express his creativity and his favorite way of doing so was woodworking. He created several pieces including snowmen and engraved and painted wall art. He also enjoyed completing puzzle books like word searches, sudoku, and crosswords.

Throughout his life, he always appreciated nature and loved being outside. This love ranged from fishing at Maple Lake, to working around the farm he shared with Marilyn, and sitting outside in his backyard in Shelburne. Over the past few years, he took great pleasure in sitting outside with a bag of peanuts and seed to feed the squirrels, chipmunks, and birds.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for the care and compassion they showed Fred.

Fred will be forever remembered, loved, and missed.

Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
