Born October 26, 1923 in Huron Township, Bruce County, just three years before Queen Elizabeth II, she was the daughter of William Fowler McDonald and May Belle Graham. Margaret graduated from SS#6 Kinloss, Lucknow District High School, Ontario Teachers’ College, Toronto, and the University of Western Ontario by extension courses and summer school. Margaret passed away gently at Vision Nursing Home on September 4, 2024 in her 101st year. Beloved sister of the late Rev.Graham and Rev. Freda MacDonald and Mack and Judith MacDonald. Adored Aunt of nieces Anne, Janet and Elizabeth and nephews Jim, Bill, John and Geoff who loved her for her kind support and encouragement, her great interest in their thoughts and accomplishments and news of their children and grandchildren. Margaret taught grades one to ten for six years in rural schools in Bruce County. She arrived in Sarnia in 1952, where she taught at Johnston Memorial, Lochiel Street, Confederation Street, Point Edward, and Hanna Memorial. Teaching was a calling for Margaret and she taught with compassion and encouragement. Following her teaching career she served for many years as secretary of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sarnia. Margaret loved music, and sang in local and church choirs. She served as a member of Session and in executive positions with St Andrew’s Presbyterian Women and The Andrew’s Seniors. She enjoyed her association with the University Women’s Club, the Minerva Club, the Retired Teachers of Ontario and the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario. Margaret will be remembered for her quiet, friendly manner, her lovely sense of humour and her devotion to Church and Family. A service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at St. Andrews Church, 261 Christina Street North, Sarnia, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Visitation will commence at 1:00 p.m., service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in South Kinloss Cemetery, Lucknow, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St Andrew’s Church, Sarnia, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
