Peacefully, surrounded by loving family at Bluewater Health on Friday, November 1, 2024, Yvonne “Betty” Kindrachuk passed away at the age of 89. She leaves behind sons Peter (Holly) of Sarnia, Michael (Laurie) of Sarnia and daughter Anne of Kabul Afghanistan. Cherished Granny to Michael (Clare) of Sarnia, Lilly (Tobias) of Sarnia, Katie of Toronto and Sarah (Jacob) of London, Ontario and Great Granny to Jack. Dear sister to Sheila (the late Vince) of Akron, Ohio and Maureen (Denny) of Doyleston, Ohio. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband and love of her life for 60 years Dr. Walter “Doc” Kindrachuk, her son John (Linda) of Largo, Florida, her brother Michael and niece Kendall both of Tomball, Texas. Betty was born in Akron and grew up in Copley, Ohio. She began her nursing career at Akron General where she met a young Canadian prairie-boy doctor who was completing his residency. They were married, started a family and moved back to Canada. After a few years in southern Saskatchewan, they eventually settled in Sarnia, Ontario. Betty always had an open-door policy to neighbourhood kids, and any stray with fur, feathers or scales. Granny always enjoyed spending time with the grandkids and more recently her first great grandchild. Later in life she faithfully cared for her ailing husband in his final few years allowing him to remain in his home until his passing in 2017. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Betty was fiercely independent to the end. Special thanks to her caregiver Denise whose assistance and friendship allowed her to maintain that independence. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia & District Humane Society (cheques only at the funeral home please).
