Passed away peacefully July 9th at home surrounded by family after a courageous 12-month battle with colon cancer. David is survived by wife Lynn (nee Wilson), son Graeme (Rebecca), and daughter Maggie. Extended family members include Stephen (Kate), Peter (Cathie) and Mary (Greg).

Born in Kitchener Ontario in 1964 to proud parents, Jim and Marnie, David was the 3rd child of four in a growing and busy family. David developed an early appreciation for agriculture spending summers at Marnie’s family farm in Belfountain, wrestling with his older brothers, and a fondness for anything motorized- especially minibikes and tractors. In 1975 the Kearns clan was uprooted to Sarnia Ontario where David would start his career, meet the love of his life and begin a family of his own.

Following in his father’s footsteps, David had a very successful career in feed sales that and spanned 40 years. Customers from decades ago claim he always put the customer first and made himself available 24/7 with an unparalleled commitment. “Nurse Lynn” came into the picture in the mid-80s and by 1989, Lynn and Dave were happily married. Graeme and Maggie followed. David will be remembered for his big heart, genuine presence, sense of humour and being a strong family man. Volunteering with the kids local 4H chapter, coaching the kids hockey were just some examples how he was involved with Graeme and Maggie and the community. He was so proud of them and their achievements. Throw in curling and a love for driving, these are activities David loved so much.

The last ten days of life were very difficult but were made bearable by the outpouring of support from visiting friends, family, and colleagues. Lynn would like to extend a special thank you to the caring and compassionate oncology staff at Sarnia General Hospital.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society is the family’s wish (cheques only at the funeral home, please).
