Peacefully in her 94th year Jean Margaret Hicks passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Fosterbrooke Long-Term Care Home, Newcastle, ON. Jean was a well loved member of Central Baptist Church where she held positions of Church Deacon, President of Woman’s Association and helped to organize Church Bazaars, Strawberry Socials and Tuesday morning ladies quilting. Jean and her husband Paul thoroughly enjoyed their forty plus year membership in the Ontario MGT Car Club travelling North America in their red 1950 MGTD convertible. This active group travelled the world to places like New Zealand, England and many other European countries always adding in a visit to a car factory or MG garage. Jean had a passion for painting and was an avid member of The Sarnia Artist Workshop since the early 80’s. Her many paintings grace the walls of her friends, family and in her own home. Mum could often be found in the flower and vegetable gardens around her home and these gardens often became subjects for her paintings. Although born in Canada, Jean and her family moved back to England in the early 1930’s. Jean and her younger sister Enid were two of the 673,000 unaccompanied school children that were tagged and sent to the countryside during The Second World War Greater London Evacuation. Predeceased by husband Paul Hicks (2016), sister Enid Collacott (2016), sister-in-law Ruth Hicks (2022) Survived by sons David (Charmaine), Donald (Janice), Neil (Carol) and grandchildren Jason (Aimee) and Chelsea (Ryan).
