Doreen Helps (nee Lewis), 86 years, of Wyoming passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Doreen was the loving wife of the late Arnold (2014). Proud mother of Richard (Ann) Helps, Kevin (Cheri) Helps and Kathy (Greg) Shortt and cherished grandmother of Kristina, Nicole, Travis, Emily (Charlie), Kylee, and Tara. Doreen was the sister of Merle and Elda (Frank Stewart) Maw. She is survived by Arnold’s siblings Donna (Jack) Bates and Gerald (the late Eleanor) Helps and her sisters-in-law Shirley Helps and Maxine Helps. She was predeceased by her parents Goldwin and Ella Lewis, sister Norma (the late Elton) Steven, and her siblings-in-law Earle (Betty) Helps, Ken (Marguerite) Helps, Gordon (Jean) Helps, Howard (Marion) Helps, Clayton Helps, Marion (Roy) Leslie, and Ross Helps. She will also be missed by her good friend Mary Nickles and her many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Doreen enjoyed farming alongside her husband Arnold for many years. She was a very hard worker and also one of the toughest women around. She enjoyed golfing and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers, but most of all loved being there to cheer on her grandchildren at all their sports and activities.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Lily and the wonderful and caring staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice and Jocelyn of Bayshore for the care they gave Doreen.
A private family graveside service will be held at Wyoming Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Wyoming Lions Hall, 554 Main St. Wyoming.
As expressions of Sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice (www.stjosephshospice.ca).
