It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jurgen Hasse who left us on December 6, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on June 23, 1930, in Kenya, Africa, Jurgen lived a life full of love, compassion, and many memorable moments.
Family meant everything to Jurgen. He immigrated to Canada to start a new life following WWII. Soon thereafter, his bride-to-be joined him and they were married in 1956. He is survived by Ute, his loving wife and loyal partner of 68 years. Jurgen was an awesome father to his daughters Susan Hasse and Bettina Helbig (Patrick), Opa to Erika Tompkins and grandsons Mason and Hudson. Brother of Jochen Hasse. Mourning his loss is his fur baby Tessi. Jurgen was predeceased by his siblings Ernst Hasse, Ursula Kirkham, and Ilse Guest. Jurgen was his happiest when surrounded by his family and friends creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Jurgen was known for his self-sacrificing spirit towards his family and his spiritual brotherhood of Jehovah’s Witnesses, always making himself available for others who were in need of a listening ear or advice. He was always active in the community, sharing God’s hope for the future of a paradise earth as promised at Psalm 37:29, and he hung on to that hope until he passed. Jurgen was a skilled master Stone Mason and prided himself on creating beautiful pieces of work, whether it be bricking in a house or creating a beautiful stone fireplace. He was sought after for his masonry skills and used them to help build places of worship of Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout Ontario and Newfoundland, always with his dear wife Ute by his side. Jurgen was a lover of nature and passed that on to his daughters, always drawing attention to Jehovah God as the Creator of all His wonderful handiwork in this world. He was also known for perfectly mimicking bird calls and would get a good chuckle for frustrating a flock of birds and any unsuspecting birdwatchers.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the EMS paramedics and staff at the Bluewater Health Telemetry and Palliative Care Units for their exceptional and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (jw.org – Donations), as this was of great importance in Jurgen's life.
A Memorial Service will be held for Jurgen on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 550 Murphy Rd., Sarnia. Friends and family are invited to gather to remember the wonderful moments and legacy Jurgen leaves behind. The service will also be connected via Zoom.
