It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Peter Hermann Enders, who peacefully departed his life, at home in the company of his beloved wife of 43 years, Susan (nee: Alexander), on January 15th, 2024 at the age of 68. He will be sadly missed by his children, Ian (Ana), Erik (Justine), and Kayleigh McLean (Andy), and seven grandchildren, Fox and Logan Enders, Vincent and Juliette Enders, and Sienna, Genie, and John McLean. Also missed by his sister Dagmar Joosten (Chuck) and brother David (Karen). Predeceased by parents Walter and Ingrid and brother Michael, and in-laws Walter and Joyce Alexander. Also survived by brothers-in-law David Alexander (Ellen) and Doug Alexander (Helen) and many nieces and nephews.
Peter was born in Frankenthal, Germany, and immigrated to Canada at age 2, where his family initially settled in Windsor before moving to Sarnia. With a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, Peter worked primarily as a Construction Estimator, initially at Ambler-Courtney in Mississauga, then at S.P. Goodfellow Construction, and lastly for over 25 years at Cope Construction. He derived great satisfaction from collaborating with his peers to secure tender and provide consistent work for the crews. Peter was an outdoorsman. Whether it be hiking the trails, walking the beach, swimming, chopping firewood, tending to the backyard koi pond, or just sitting outside on the patio with a morning coffee watching his fish and listening to the birds, he liked being with nature. He enjoyed fishing at the cottage, golfing, and after retirement, birding with his wife. In the winter months, he loved travelling, curling, and bowling until health issues prevented him from doing so. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren pursuing their interests and imparting his infectious laugh. Though he is no longer with us in person, the echoes of his intelligence, loyalty, dependability, strong work ethic, goofy sense of humour and love of his family resonate within our hearts. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with words of remembrance to follow directly at 3:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bladder Cancer Canada (BCC) or the Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation (BCRR), both via their websites.
