Arthur (Art) Stuart Dunlop passed peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Bluewater Health Hospital, Sarnia at the age of 93.
Beloved husband of Kathy (Melnbardis) and the late Anna (Moore). Loving father of David (Shirley), Alan (Jennifer), Andrew (Colleen), Valerie Gwynne and Brant Melnbardis and cherished grandfather of Anna, Riley, Liam, Scott, Raymond and Stephanie. He will be dearly missed by his sister Marney McCracken (Hugo). Predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary Dunlop and his siblings William (Mary), Robert (Joan), Sadie, James (Anna), Johnny (Kay).
Art was born in Kirkhills, Ballymoney, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He graduated from Queens University, Belfast, with a Bachelor of Science degree and later completed his Masters of Engineering from The University of Western Ontario, London. He worked his entire career as a Chemical Engineer at Polysar/Bayer in Sarnia.
Art cherished his life on the river with Kathy. He lived his life to the fullest and was always excited to kick off a new project, whether that was restoring old British cars, doing home repairs, or working with his sons on anything that required his services. He had an unquenchable appetite to learn and discuss new ideas, whether it was about the extinction of the dinosaurs or what maps tell us about the history of humanity. He and Kathy spent many memorable winters in Barbados, enjoying the company of the locals and other snowbirds alike.
Art's greatest joys were his family, especially his grandchildren. He travelled across Canada and around the world to be present in their lives and to celebrate their milestones and accomplishments. He will be dearly missed but his spirit lives on in the memories of those who knew him.
Family and Friends will be welcomed to a Celebration of Life at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. A livestream of Art’s service will be available on his memorial page at smithfuneralhome.ca at the time of service for those who cannot attend in person.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the medical staff at Bluewater Health who provided Art with such excellent care. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to Bluewater Health Foundation (cheques only at the funeral home please).
