Maj Dan Dumas (July 5, 1942 - April 27, 2024)
It has been a year since you left us and we still think of you every day.
Dan served in the Canadian forces from as early as they would take him, retiring at the rank of Major. But Dan played many more roles in life. Dan was a prince of a man, a fighter, a scuba diver, a musician, a hockey player, a ref, an engineer, a traveller, a skier, a golfer, he was a project maker, a project manager, he was Captain of his own boat! Dan was a beloved husband and friend to Jane and above all he was a beloved father to two terrific sons, Scott and Jeff, a father-in-law to Ashley grandfather to Simone and Ollie and cherished brother to Bonnie.
Dan also had a loving step family through his wife Jane. They adored Dan as the role model & father they never had. Dan was a patient and persistent man who never found a problem he couldn’t solve.
Every time a problem arose our famous refrain was ‘let’s call Dan and say it can’t be done’ because we knew Dan could always find a way.
Dan was magnificent to us, staggeringly clever and the best of men, his smile was as big as his heart, and he was always thinking of everyone else. Even as he struggled to regain his cognitive abilities, he was worried to the end, that his wife Jane “would be ok”. and that he could talk to his sons Jeff and Scott.
Dan was the joy of a father and later the loyalty of a friend. We loved him as much as we feared losing him and the emptiness is devastating - our hearts are shattered.
We are better for having Dan in our lives as is everyone who was lucky enough to have that honour.
Death has no power to take the love we have for Dan that is forged so deeply in all of our hearts.
Until we meet again rest in peace dearest Dan knowing you will be lovingly and tremendously missed.
