Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Riverview Gardens in Chatham, Ruth Ann Core passed away at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late John Core (2003). Loving mother of Christopher (Kimberly) Core of Chatham. Cherished grandmother of Samantha and Johnathan. Dear sister of June (late Kenneth) McGregor and Shirley (late Richard) Yorke. Sister-in-law to Walter (Kathy) Core, Bonnie (Ray) Core, Shirley (Don) Hope, Ralph (Kathleen) Prince, and Ruby (Morris) Rankin. Remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Wilbert and Ethel Oakes, her brother Harry (late Marjorie) Oakes, and sister-in-law Augusta Core, and her husband Jim Pratt (2016). Ruth was a passionate member of her community, who showed her support through volunteering with organizations such as Welcome Wagon. She was a longtime member of Christ Anglican Church where she was active in the voice and bell and handbell choirs. Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars for several years. She was President of CEE Hospital Auxiliary, Petrolia, and a member of the International Symphony Orchestra. Ruth will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Hillsdale Cemetery. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Christ Anglican Church (cheques only at the funeral home please).
