It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert Howard Collop announces his passing, at the age of 82, on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at his home in Waterloo, Ontario. Robert was a 2nd Class Stationary Engineer and worked as a Process Operator for over 40 years at Sun Oil and Novacor. Robert is predeceased by his parents, Howard and Helen Collop of Wallaceburg and is survived and deeply loved by Marion his soulmate and wife, his son, Andrew Collop and his wife, Jane and their children, Ewan and Isla; his daughter, Robin Filip and her husband, Justin, and their children, Eleanora and Erik, and his sisters Katherine Skinner and Rebecca Debruyn as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert was born in Chatham on December 14, 1941, a birthdate that he shared with his son, Andrew. He was raised in Wallaceburg and attended W.O.I.T. (Western Ontario Institute of Technology) in Windsor. He married Marion Elizabeth Hedman on June 8, 1968 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Sudbury and the two were inseparable and devoted to each other for 55 years. Robert was an amazing father and husband. His family was his focus and meant everything to him. Robert was always an ethical and honourable man with a wonderful sense of humour and he could fix almost anything. He had a steady, quiet presence about him and he was so proud of his children and the amazing people that they grew up to be. Robert will be sadly missed by us all.
Arrangements are entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:30pm at Smith Funeral Home. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Bluewater Health Foundation.
