We sadly announce the passing of Deacon Cyriel Cogghe on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the CKHA Wallaceburg Campus. He was 80 years old.
He was married to the love of his life, Marion (Hanmore) Cogghe, for nearly 60 years; loving father of Tim (Sarah) Cogghe, Cathy Cogghe (Mike Wilder), Julie (Jamie) Yolkowskie, and Nick (Christie) Cogghe.
He will be fondly remembered by his grandkids - Keysha (Teddy), Kyle, Ren, Jesse, Jimmy, Gracie, Jett and Wyatt, and by his great-grandkids Alexis and Connor. He was uncle Cyriel to 34 and great uncle to about 70 nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Cyriel was the oldest son of the late Marcel and Margaret (Seys) Cogghe, and one of 12 children in a busy farming family out on the Syne. He was no stranger to hard work, and spend many years working as a mould maker, marine mechanic, businessman, and a carpenter. He was never known to sit still very long and he loved to play pool, garden, tinker in the garage, invite friends for a game of cards, or meet up for a cup of coffee and a chat.
He will be dearly missed by his siblings - the late Arlene (the late Bill) Lauwers, Mary De Roeven, the late Michael (Diana) Cogghe, Diane (Don) Barnier, David (Norma) Cogghe, the late Joe Cogghe (Joanne), Jim Cogghe (Janet), Jayne Hetherington (Ron), Dan (Deb) Cogghe, Chris (the late Carol) (Sue) Cogghe and the late Tom Cogghe.
He will forever be remembered by the parishioners of the Holy Redeemer Cluster of Parishes in Wallaceburg, Dresden and Port Lambton for the many years of service to his faith community. Deacon Cyriel was ordained in the Catholic Church in November 2005, and before that, he had regularly volunteered in many roles at life-long parish, Our Lady Help of Christians in Wallaceburg.
Deacon Cyriel’s family send our deepest thanks to the health care teams on 4th floor Continuing Care at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in Chatham, the Medicine team and the staff at the Oaks Retirement Village in Wallaceburg.
You are invited to join the family and friends of the late Deacon Cyriel Cogghe to celebrate his life at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 422 Elgin St. in Wallaceburg, Ontario.
Visitation will be at the church on Sunday, July 21, from 3-5 pm & 7-9 pm with a vigil service to close the night at 8:30 pm.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the church at 11 am on Monday, July 22.
Cremation to follow with interment in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
